“Blues is a Woman” is a live concert and theater piece celebrating women blues artists from Ma Rainey to Bonnie Raitt. Set to debut in early 2017, Custom Made presents a sneak peek of this work in progress. With storytelling, projected imagery and a thrilling live concert, the ensemble cast will transport the audience back to the very early origins of American’s most enduring art form.

“Blues is a Woman: Wild Women of Song” is a theatrical funk and roots-infused musical narrative by Pamela Rose, featuring some of the most talented women in the world of blues music today: Tammy Hall (piano), Pat Wilder (guitar), Ruth Davies (bass), Kristen Strom (saxophone), and Daria Johnson (drums).
Written by San Francisco educator and vocalist Pamela Rose whose previous work, “Wild Women of Song: Great Gal Composers of the Jazz Era” shone a light on key women in early jazz and toured nationally for five years, gathering critical acclaim:
